North Jersey FSC is sad to announce the passing of longtime coach Gloria Swanson.
As a young girl, Gloria trained to be a figure skater. She was a Canadian gold medalist, former pairs champion and runner up in figures, free, and dance competitions. She was one of a very small group of people who qualified for the United States National Championships in three events in one year.
Mrs. Swanson taught figure skating at the Fritz Dietl Ice Rink in Westwood, NJ for 62 years. She influenced the lives of many young skaters, some of whom followed in her footsteps by competing in figure skating competitions, as well as becoming professional figure skaters teaching alongside her. Others went on to become national figure skating judges.
